How Do I Return to Work After a DOT Drug Test Violation?

"How do I get back to work after failing a DOT drug test?"
The DOT return-to-duty process generally includes several required steps before you can resume safety-sensitive duties.
Step 1: SAP Evaluation
You must meet with a qualified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP).
Step 2: Education or Treatment
Your SAP may recommend education, treatment, counseling, or other corrective actions.
Step 3: SAP Follow-Up Evaluation
After completing the SAP's recommendations, you return for a follow-up evaluation.
Step 4: Return-to-Duty Test
The SAP authorizes a return-to-duty test.
Step 5: Negative Test Result
A successful return-to-duty test is generally required before returning to safety-sensitive duties.
